Gallery Agreement with Slipstream Clay Studio:
Members of this community gallery will have an area of 8’x8’ (approximately) in which to compose their artwork. This may include gallery walls, gallery supplied or artist supplied pedestals/shelving. Each artist will have the opportunity to participate in events at the gallery and receive promotion through the Slipstream Clay Studio social media and website.
All sales will go through the Slipstream Clay Studio website and a commission of 10% will be retained by the gallery. A check will be issued to you as your work is sold. This commission covers website/credit card fees of about 5% and the other 5% pays Slipstream (This is all the compensation that Slipstream Clay Studio receives for time and resources dedicated to hosting the gallery.)
Membership dues are $65. These dues go entirely toward the monthly rent and utilities for the space. It takes 12 dues-paying members to pay 1/3 of the spaces rent and utilities.
Gallery members are expected to:
Work at least one 4-hour shift during the month where they sell artwork and help maintain the gallery
Commit to a 3-4 hour monthly job that helps to run the gallery
Whenever possible, members should attend a monthly meeting and events scheduled in the gallery.
Joining this membership and submitting payment are acknowledgement that you agree to these terms.
While Vicki, as the business owner, is overseeing the use of the building and the payment method, this gallery is meant to be run by its members. That will mean deciding and voting on procedures, creating displays and installation of work together, adding members, choosing a name and likely many other things. A gallery like this can be a place to sell some artwork or it can be something much greater. It can be a place to create community and get feedback. It can be a place to explore new work and build a showing record, without the pressure of needing to sell it. It can be a place for experienced artists to be mentors and less experienced artists to gain confidence talking about and making their art.
